USPK

 𖢥 motion graphics      𖢥 identity

The United States Parkour Association (USPK) hosts an annual National Championships where athletes compete across categories such as speed, skill, and style, demonstrating their ability to navigate obstacle courses with efficiency, control, and creativity. I designed a new logo and motion identity system for USPK and the event, drawing inspiration from the dynamics of parkour movement and the tension, adrenaline, and precision that define the sport.

The Wordmark

Set in the Brett typeface by 205TF, the blocky letterforms reference the indoor obstacle structures: large wooden platforms and blocks. Their intentional lockup reflects the precision required to complete these runs, while the rectangular blocks create a sense of depth and spatial illusion, echoing the layered environments of parkour.

The Motion

After completing a few motion studies, I knew I wanted to incorporate flips, jumps, and swinging to show the dynamicism involved in the sport. Therefore, by personifying the letters to create a type-focused identity, I made sure the course and the “players” integrated in an interactive way.

To fully demonstrate the motion system, I created a promotional triptych designed for public display, such as in a subway station, to advertise USPK’s National Championships.

This format allows the movement to extend fluidly across multiple screens, creating a more linear, narrative flow. The first half emphasizes the course itself, as if the environment is physically pushing and shaping the typographic movements. The second half transitions into a dynamic 3D render, amplifying the sense of energy and momentum. Special attention was given to ensuring smooth transitions between 2D and 3D moments and staying true to the physics of the athletes.
